Connect a Festool 36 mm (D36) tool port to a 2-1/2 in shop-vac hose

How to join a Festool 36 mm (D36) tool port to a 2-1/2 in shop-vac hose, and what stops it leaking dust.

Reducer required

Not a direct fit. Joining the Festool 36 mm (D36) tool port to a 2-1/2 in shop-vac hose needs a 36 mm to 2-1/2 in hose reducer.

Shop notes

A Festool D36 hose end is about 44 mm OD and a 2-1/2 in shop-vac hose cuff is about 2-1/4 in (57 mm) ID, so the D36 tip drops loosely inside without gripping. A 36 mm to 2-1/2 in reducer or a wrap-free stepped cuff makes the join hold.

The D36 tip rattling inside a 2-1/2 in cuff feels connected but leaks around the gap. Close it with a proper step, not by cranking a hose clamp onto round plastic.
