Connect a SawStop table-saw rear guard port to a Festool D36 antistatic hose
How to join a SawStop table-saw rear guard port to a Festool D36 antistatic hose, and what stops it leaking dust.
Not compatible without stepping down. A Festool D36 antistatic hose is far larger than the SawStop table-saw rear guard port, so it needs a 2-1/2 in to 36 mm step reducer.
Rings drawn to scale from the measured diameters in the table below.
The two ends
| End A | SawStop table-saw rear guard port (2-1/2 in OD, 64 mm OD) |
|---|---|
| End B | Festool D36 antistatic hose (44 mm tip in OD, 1-1/2 in ID) |
| Fit type | male port into hose cuff |
| Reducer needed | 2-1/2 in to 36 mm step reducer |
Shop notes
The hose is about 38 mm and the port about 64 mm, a gap of 26 mm, so the port simply swallows the hose with no contact. A 2-1/2 in to 36 mm step reducer is needed, and even reduced the airflow is mismatched between the SawStop table-saw rear guard port and the Festool D36 antistatic hose.
Wrapping tape to close a 26 mm gap never seals cleanly and chokes the airflow further. Step the sizes properly, or pair each end with a fitting closer to its own size.
