Measured across the joint between the Ryobi sander port and the DeWalt DWV012 32 mm hose, the port socket (36 mm) is 4 mm larger than the hose tip (32 mm), so the hose tip rattles inside without gripping. A 1.42 in / 36 mm ID to 32 mm step reducer closes that 4 mm step so the two hold together instead of leaking at the gap.
