Measured across the joint between the Dremel Multi-Max dust port and the Makita 28 mm anti-static hose, the port socket (32 mm) is 4 mm larger than the hose tip (28 mm), so the hose tip rattles inside without gripping. A small port for 1-1/4 in hose tip to 28 mm step reducer closes that 4 mm step so the two hold together instead of leaking at the gap.
A 4 mm mismatch feels close enough to force, and it will hold for a minute before it works loose under airflow. Fit the step ring rather than trusting friction on a gap this size.
