Connect a Ryobi sander port to a 2-1/2 in Ridgid / Craftsman locking hose

How to join a Ryobi sander port to a 2-1/2 in Ridgid / Craftsman locking hose, and what stops it leaking dust.

Reducer required

Not a direct fit. Joining the Ryobi sander port to a 2-1/2 in Ridgid / Craftsman locking hose needs a 1.42 in / 36 mm ID to 2-1/2 in step reducer.

END A36.5 mmRyobi sander port (1-7/16 in ID)

Shop notes

Measured across the joint between the Ryobi sander port and the 2-1/2 in Ridgid / Craftsman locking hose, the hose tip (57 mm) is 21 mm larger than the port socket (36 mm), so it will not seat. A 1.42 in / 36 mm ID to 2-1/2 in step reducer closes that 21 mm step so the two hold together instead of leaking at the gap.

A 21 mm mismatch feels close enough to force, and it will hold for a minute before it works loose under airflow. Fit the step ring rather than trusting friction on a gap this size.
