Connect a Ryobi sander port to a Festool D36 antistatic hose

How to join a Ryobi sander port to a Festool D36 antistatic hose, and what stops it leaking dust.

Reducer required

Not a direct fit. Joining the Ryobi sander port to a Festool D36 antistatic hose needs a 1.42 in / 36 mm ID to 36 mm step reducer.

END B44 mmFestool D36 antistatic hose (44 mm tip in OD, 1-1/2 in ID)
END A36.5 mmRyobi sander port (1-7/16 in ID)

Rings drawn to scale from the measured diameters in the table below.

The two ends

Shop notes

Measured across the joint between the Ryobi sander port and the Festool D36 antistatic hose, the hose tip (44 mm) is 8 mm larger than the port socket (36 mm), so it will not seat. A 1.42 in / 36 mm ID to 36 mm step reducer closes that 8 mm step so the two hold together instead of leaking at the gap.

A 8 mm mismatch feels close enough to force, and it will hold for a minute before it works loose under airflow. Fit the step ring rather than trusting friction on a gap this size.
